TESDA III and SMC’s First Stride: A Collaboration to Empower Skills at Bulacan International Airport

In a significant step towards bolstering skills development for the Bulacan International Airport, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) convened on October 9, 2023 for a follow through meeting, following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on August 24, 2023.

The MOA, a testament to their unwavering commitment, is aimed at identifying and developing Highly Specialized Training Skills Programs/Courses that align with the specific requirements of the Bulacan International Airport. This collaboration underscores the shared goal of enhancing the skills and employability of marginalized sectors, returning overseas workers, and other qualified individuals who are affected of the ongoing construction of the Bulacan International Airport.

Key outcomes of the recent meeting include the scheduling of an exploratory meeting with representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in the upcoming week. Following this, a feedback report will be presented to the Technical Working Group (TWG), comprising representatives from both SMC and TESDA, after the CAAP meeting.

To ensure the successful execution of the program, TESDA has designated focal persons at various levels, including Regional Director Toni June Tamayo, Provincial Director Melanie Grace Romero, Ms. Juliette Feliciano (ROD Chief), and relevant ROD staff. SMC, on the other hand, has appointed Atty. Mikee Rosales, Mr. Elmer Bohol, Ms. Nenuca Tangonan, and Mr. Alex Tangonan to play pivotal roles in this collaborative effort.

Other attendees at the meeting included Ms. Evelyn Luna, FASD Chief, and Ms. Liwayway Calaguas, Senior TESD Specialist, underlining the widespread support and involvement in this initiative.

TESDA and SMC, together, are resolute in addressing the specific training needs of the Bulacan International Airport. Their collaboration is poised to significantly contribute to the development and growth of the region. As this partnership progresses, both entities are committed to providing further updates and progress reports to realize the objectives outlined in the MOA.
